Mud Pies and Scrambled eggs

A fun week at Forest School which involved a lot of getting mucky.  Thursday's group started making cob to put on the oven.  They made a well in the middle of the pile of clay, sand and straw and pounded it with sticks this led to a lot of splashing.  They slapped the mixture on to the oven and themselves.  In a sligthly cleaner area the herbs in their Hairy Pots were being planted.  These plants will be used to flavour the bread we bake.  One of the boys brought in his collect of skull and bones to show everyone.
The Friday crew had an scientific game of cricket.  Instead of a cricket ball each team were given two eggs.  Each team could use anything they could find in the Forest School area or just outside the Forest School, along with some wool and string.  The teams worked really well coming up with amazing ideas including finding some sports cones to make armour casing with and an old hot chocolate jar (plastic) being used to protect the egg.  They packed the eggs with clay, dry grass, leaves and old bits of fabric, it was a shame to bowl them down the pitch.  The cricket soon turned into a rugby match as the last egg was throw from one team to the other.  It was good to see the group working well together and working through conflicts in a safe way.  The only thing which is a little negative is the group finds it very hard to lose and we are going to include more games to work on this.

how much is a picture worth?

I've been really busy over the last few weeks with garden designs, BMX Club, running workshops for the NT and WI as well as living so I've not had time to keep up with the blog.  So as the saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words so here's a dissertation.
